Recently, many rumors have been circling around concerning Sony and claiming that they are possibly going to introduce a premiere tier service for the PlayStation Network. These rumors really start to be more valid when Sony executives begin to talk about them.

“Why don’t we charge for [PlayStation Network]?” said Peter Dille, who is Sony’s Vice President of marketing. “It’s been our philosophy not to charge for it from launch up until now, but Kaz [Hirai, head of Sony games] recently went on the record as saying that’s something we’re looking at. I can confirm that as well. That’s something that we’re actively thinking about. What’s the best way to approach that if we were to do that? You know, no announcements at this point in time, but it’s something we’re thinking about.”

Fortunately, at the present time, there are not any signs that Sony plans to remove its biggest marketing advantage that it has over Xbox Live which is being able to play the online multiplayer for no money.

What specific features would you be willing to pay for in a premium service?

The PlayStation 3, which will be released in September, has had a price reduction and will now be available for $299. One bad thing about the new PlayStation 3 is that you will not be able to use your PlayStation 2 games in this system. With this one negative thing included in the PlayStation 3, there is, however, many newer features that will make up for this.

A few new PlayStation 3 features have been released.

A section called “What’s New” will now replace the previous ”Information Board”. This will allow you to check out PlayStation news each and every time you start up the PlayStation 3 system. This section will show you all of the most recent releases and the most important news. It will also show your recently played games.

Under both the Game and Video categories there is now a convenient shortcut icon. This will allow you to access new content with greater ease and quickness.

New custom themes and avatars are now going to be available. Some free and exclusive avatars will be available in the PlayStation Store. The different themes will bring your screen into a whole new and better view as it incorperates animated objects in the background. Both of these things make for a more exciting gaming experience.

In the top right corner of your screen there is now going to be an added indicator bar. This indicator displays your user icon, friend icon, the amount of friends you have online and also a message icon to inform you whether or not you have a new message.

Your PlayStation Network friends will now appear in a changed format on your friends list.

The long awaited PS3 will definitely be worth the wait.
