Best PlayStation 2 Game – Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Best PlayStation Story Game – Ar Tonelico 2: Melody of Meta Falica
PlayStation 3 Game of the Year – Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

The PlayStation 3 had a very good year. There was a pretty good stream of high quality releases for the whole year. Something that helped the PlayStation 3 have such a successful year was the price drop that it took. The price drop helped the PlayStation 3 be sold more which eventually lead to higher sales of the games. Also, there were many third party publishers that came out with some decent games too. Do you agree with these “best” games?

The following are the hardware sales from the month of November:

DS — 1.70M

Xbox 360 — 819,500

PlayStation 3 — 710,400

PSP — 293,900

PlayStation 2 — 203,100

Because of the Christmas season, I think that the hardware sales are going to steadily increase for a little while as there are probably a lot of kids with these consoles on their Christmas list.

“All hardware systems realized an increase over October but one would expect that from seasonality alone,” said Group analyst Anita Frazier. “More positive economic news combined with ‘frugal fatigue’ could positively impact industry sales during these last weeks of the holiday season.”
Here are the software sales from the month of November:

360 – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Activision, 4.20M

PS3 – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Activision, 1.87M

Wii – New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Nintendo, 1.39M

360 – Assassin’s Creed II, Ubisoft, 794,700

360 – Left 4 Dead 2, Electronic Arts, 744,000

Wii – Wii Sports Resort, Nintendo, 720,200

Wii – Wii Fit Plus, Nintendo, 679,000

PS3 – Assassin’ Creed II, Ubisoft, 448,400

360 – Dragon Age: Origins, Electronic Arts, 362,100

Wii – Mario Kart w/ Wheel, Nintendo, 315,000

It comes as no surprise to any one which game was going to come out on top.

“While this year’s top-selling item bested last year’s by 283%, it couldn’t make up for softness elsewhere,” said Frazier. “The top 50 games this year sold 5% less units than did the top 50 last year.”

Nine years ago, on this exact day, the PlayStation 2 was “born”. So it would only be right to say, ”Happy Birthday PS2!” The PlayStation 2 was easily the champion of the last console war. Being nine years old, the PS2 is ancient in the video game world.

According to reports made by Sony, there is supposedly one household that owns a PlayStation 2 for every three households in the US. In the world, there is nearly 140 million people who own the system. The PlayStation 2 definitely earned it’s way onto the list of the most successful game consoles ever made. There are still games being created for this console. In case you missed your chance in the last decade, you can pick up the PS2 Slim for only $99. The PS2 games are available for very low prices at game retailers around the world. Pick up one of your favorite games choosing from over 10,000 options.

A lot of people probably have their PS2 out of use at the moment and haven’t touched it since they got their most recent PS3, Xbox 360 or Wii. Do you still play your PlayStation 2 or when was the last time you played it? Do you even remember where you are storing it?

Even with the two latest price cuts from Microsoft and Sony for the Xbox 360 and the PS3, the Wii still sold more consoles then the other two. However, the winner goes to the Nintendo DS because this by far had the most sales for August.

Even with the two latest price cuts from Microsoft and Sony for the Xbox 360 and the PS3, the Wii still sold more consoles then the other two. However, the winner goes to the Nintendo DS because this by far had the most sales for August.

Here are the sales numbers for August 2009:

Nintendo DS: 552,900 (up from 538,900)

Wii: 277,400 (up from 252,500)

Xbox 360: 215,400 (up from 202,900)

PlayStation 3: 210,000 (up from 121,800)

PSP: 140,3000 (up from 122,800)

PlayStation 2: 105,900 (down from 108,000)

Because the price cuts by Microsoft and Sony were not made until around the end of August, the full adjustments of these price slashes will not be able to be easily detected until September is over. It is believed that there will be a great change between the sales of August and the sales that are to come in September.

“All hardware systems with the exception of the PS2 realized an increase in unit sales over July. The PS3 captured the greatest increase month-over-month with unit sales boosted by 72% over July levels,” said Anita Frazier, NPD analyst. “There is a lot of speculation about Wii and whether Nintendo will take a price cut as sales comps to last year show declines. I do think it’s interesting to note that the Wii is still selling at levels comparable to what the PS2 was doing at about this point in its life-cycle.”

The top ten games in software sales includes the following ten games:

1. 360 Madden NFL 2010, Electronic Arts, 928,000
2. Wii Wii Sports Resort w/ Wii Motion Plus, Nintendo of America, 754,000
3. PS3 Madden NFL 2010, Electronic Arts, 665,000
4. 360 Batman: Arkham Asylum, Square Enix, 303,000
5. PS3 Batman: Arkham Asylum, Square Enix, 290,000
6. PS2 Madden NFL 2010, Electronic Arts, 160,000
7. PSP Dissidia: Final Fantasy, Square Enix, 130,000
8. Wii Wii Fit, Nintendo of America, 128,000
9. Wii Mario Kart w/ Wheel, Nintendo of America, 120,000
10. DS Fossil Fighters, Nintendo of America, 92,000

Taking it’s rightful spot at number one, Madden NFL 2010, does not come as a surprise to very many people. There is a possibility of an upcoming drop in game sales which is already beginning to worry people. Anita Frazier, NPD group analyst spoke about this issue considering Guitar Hero 5 and The Beatles: Rock Band are new games.

“With the introduction of Beatles: Rock Band and Guitar Hero 5 in September, a lot of folks have inquired about the performance of these titles and the music/dance genre,” said Frazier. “While sales of this genre are down 46% year-to-date, unit sales are down much less because lower prices are playing into the dollar sales decline. It’s still the third best-selling genre for the year after General Action and Multiple/Other Sports (where Wii Fit resides).”
