It was a big week when both The Beatles: Rock Band and Guitar Hero 5 were made available to you. Two music based video games being released so close together gives many people with a choice as they may only want to buy one. Although The Beatles: Rock Band is having a lot success with sales, Activision reports that The Fab Four is no match for Guitar Hero 5. Announced by the Financial Times:
“Dan Rosensweig, head of the Guitar Herodivision at Activision, told the Financial Times it had seen no impact from the heavily-marketed Beatles game. ‘It did not affect our sales’. He added that Guitar Hero outsold Rock Band by four to one in the US and nine to one in other markets.”
Before both of these games were even released last month, the prediction was made by analysts that Guitar Hero 5 would outsell The Beatles: Rock Band by as much as two times. Since The Beatles is a British band, you would think that The Beatles: Rock Band would at least outsell Guitar Hero 5 in England, but that is wrong which is something that definitely surprises me.
It has not yet been completely confirmed if Guitar Hero 5 is really outselling The Beatles: Rock Band. However, if this is true, will this trend continue for much longer?
