Finally, after having been spoken about for quite a while, we can now for sure say, after it was announced today: Netfix streaming is actually coming to the Nintendo Wii this spring.

“The Wii console is the social hub around which friends and family members gather to play games and have fun,” said Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime. “Soon both new and longtime Wii owners will enjoy the benefits of Netflix – and a variety of informational and entertainment options – by being Netflix members and connecting their consoles to the Internet.”

Reed Hastings, the co-founder and CEO of Netflix, said about the partnership, “Joining forces with Nintendo, which has been so immensely popular with consumers since its introduction, is a very meaningful step.”

Just like the way it is for the PlayStation 3, if you would like to have Netflix streaming for the Wii, you will need to have a special instant streaming disc in order to enable the service for use. However, don’t be worried, Netflix is going to give this disc to subscribers at no cost. All that you have to do is sign up for it at the Wii Netflix Page. You are able to do this now and then just wait for it to come to you in the spring.
